Actually Chasing Waterfalls For This Engagement Session In Portland

October 30, 2020

So I’d done most of my exploring through Oregon, right? Wrong. I wanted the FULL Portland experience and know exactly how to capture couples for casual, engagement, and wedding shoots in any environment they wanted for their shoot. The best way to understand different locations is to try them and I had yet to experience and do a photoshoot at one of these infamous Oregon waterfalls I’ve heard so much about. So yes, we actually went chasing waterfalls.

While waterfall-hunting, another friend and University of Arizona alumni, Sascha, grabbed her guy Hunter and met up with me. As we all know, 2020 has been an… interesting year for travelers and have posed a challenge for multiple shoots this year for me. This one was no different. Whether it was due to the recent fire or our “lovely friend”, COVID, many of the waterfalls were shut down or closed to the public.

So as these shoots have been relying on the beauty of the unexpected, we turned to nature for this shoot too. This absolutely breathtaking waterfall was buried off the beaten path. With some truly wild mist from the falls and the warm weather, conditions seemed perfect until I got my camera out. That waterfall was STRONG! Between the fog and the water splashing onto my lenses, getting some beautiful shots were tricky, but not impossible.

I’m so glad I was able to experience these sort of conditions on my own shoot with a friend so I know how to coordinate a shoot at a waterfall location for a future client’s special photos.
