You’re engaged! How exciting! This huge life change opens up so many doors (and so much planning). First and foremost, you have to plan and prep your engagement photo shoot! Here is your guide to preparing for your first photo op as a couple to be wed! Get that ring ready!
Step 1: Find a Photographer
Finding a photographer is one of the most important aspects of planning your engagement photo shoot! Why? Because it sets the stage for what kind of photos you can expect and who you’re going to experience the shoot with! Instagram is a fantastic tool to “shop” for a photographer for lack of a better term. The app has evolved and become a way for photographers to showcase their work to people just like you! Professional feeds are curated to reflect the style you could expect when working with each photographer and you can often learn all about them to determine if you’d like to work with them!
Step 2: Create a Pinterest Board
Pinterest is another app that can set the tone for your shoot based solely off inspiration! What can Pinterest help with when it comes to your engagement shoot? SO MUCH! You can find poses that speak to you, props you love, and specific shots you can ask that photographer you found on Instagram for during your session. Create a board and maybe even sections to separate each specific want you’d like during your session. Want to go a step further? Let your photographer in on your vision before your session! Send them some inspo photos you find and love or ask if they feel comfortable with being added to the board you created so they can better understand what you want to get out of the session!
Step 3: Find and Bring your Props
After checking out all that inspiration on Pinterest, chances are, you have a pretty good idea of some specific photos you’d like with your future spouse. But what else may be included in those photos aside from you two and your love? Set aside all the props you’d like! Here are some ideas:
- Outfit Change(s)
- Picnic Blanket
- Picnic Basket
Step 4: Practice in the Mirror
It may feel silly, but practice really does make perfect! When you get in front of that lens, you’ll want to maximize every second in front of it. So getting to know your best angles, practicing that casual smile/serious face, and posing with your future wife or husband! Yes, you read that correctly. Grab your special someone and get in front of that mirror to practice what poses you want as your go-tos! Getting in front of the lens can be nerve-wracking. The best way to combat the nerves is to feel prepared going into your session and knowing how you look!
Step 5: Have Fun!
The best step of all – have fun during your engagement photo shoot! If all else fails, jump around and love on your partner! Real, raw moments are the type of thing photographers LOVE to capture and often turn out to be the best photos in the end! What matters is that you have a good time and that the photos reflect that.
